Getting a Canvas Account for BYU Classes
Students and faculty in BYU-Provo, Salt Lake Center and BYU Online classes are given a Canvas account automatically when enrolled in a class that uses Canvas.
Students should receive LMS instructions and support from their teachers or TAs.
Logging Onto Canvas
BYU-Provo manages multiple instances of Canvas LMS, each with their own separate user bases, logins, and course sets. Students and teachers should log onto Canvas at the appropriate URL for their program, listed below.
In most cases, use your BYU NetID and associated password to log-in. If you are unsure of your NetID or need to reset your password, go to accountrecovery.byu.edu or get help by phone at 801-422-4000.
Canvas accounts for staff, faculty and students outside of mainline university classes
Members of the BYU community may need Canvas access for one or more of the following reasons:
to perform university work-related duties
to participate in training, professional development or other Canvas-hosted activities outside of AIM-managed classes and Canvas courses
to explore Canvas and build course content prior to setting-up AIM -managed courses
To request a Canvas account for use outside of AIM-managed courses, submit a Canvas account request at it.byu.edu or by calling BYU-OIT Support at 801-422-4000.
BYU staff and teachers who need to add Canvas accounts for a list of individuals should visit the page BYU Canvas Account Request.
