CTP Students and Faculty: As of March 2021, we strongly recommend that you use a BYU account (with a BYU Net ID) to sign into BYU Canvas and access your CTP classes.

The video below shows you how to set-up a new or existing BYU Canvas account to use a BYU account for sign-in:

Follow these steps to set-up Canvas to use a BYU account for login:

1. Request a BYU account (if you do not have one already):
You can request a new Brigham Young University account here: accounts.byu.edu
When setting-up your account, note your:

• 9-digit BYU ID number (xx-xxx-xxxx)
• BYU Net ID
• Your BYU password

2. Send your BYU account information to BYU Canvas here

Questions and Answers

I may already have a BYU Net ID, but I am not sure. How do I check?
Go to https://accountrecovery.byu.edu/ . Under "Recover your Login Credentials," click on "Enter your Recovery email." Enter the email address you believe you used to register for your BYU account. If BYU can identify your account with your email address, you will receive a reminder of your Net ID by email.

I cannot remember my password. Can I get a new one?
Yes- go to https://accountrecovery.byu.edu/ . Under "Reset your Password," enter your Net ID to have a password reset link sent to the email address listed on your BYU account.

I have confirmed my Net ID and password, but still cannot log in. What am I doing wrong?
You may be logging in at the wrong URL. If you have a BYU Net ID, you must log into BYU Canvas at http://byucanvas.byu.edu or http://byu.instructure.com . Do not use http://byu.instructure.com/login, unless you are still using your older log in, with your email address as your Login ID.

I have a Net ID, and ca n log into BYU Canvas. However, some or all of my previous classes are missing. What is wrong, and what can I do?
You may have multiple Canvas accounts, and we can fix that! Please write to us at canvas_team@byu.edu and tell us you cannot see all of your classes. It will help if you tell us any other names email addresses you may have used with Canvas.

I cannot get my Net ID to work. Will my old login (with my email address) still be available to me?
Earlier, were expecting to disable old email logins. However, getting Canvas accounts to use Net IDs is taking longer than expected, and we don't want you to miss out on your classes. So- you may continue using your email login as long as needed. However, we still recommend you switch to a BYU Net ID login as soon as possible, for increased security and password management convenience- and we will likely need to disable all email logins at a future date.

If you cannot use your password for an older email login, you must switch to a Net ID login for BYU Canvas, and all new BYU Canvas accounts must also be set-up with a Net ID login. No email logins will be created or updated.
