Canvas Instances at BYU

Information on individual installations of Canvas at Brigham Young University

About Canvas LMS

Canvas LMS is an open-source SaaS (Software as a Service) learning management system developed and released by Instructure, Inc. Most institutions that use Canvas (including Brigham Young University) contract with Instructure to host and manage Canvas, and to provide updates and support.

Fun fact: Canvas was developed by BYU graduate students Brian Whitmer and Devlin Daley in collaboration with their grad school professor Josh Coates (first CEO of Canvas).

Some larger institutions (including Brigham Young University) have multiple and separate instances of Canvas, each with separate accounts, authentication (login) and administrative management.
